Živoroděnka svítivá - trpaslík s něžným jménem
Po delší době máme opět v nabídce vzácně chovanou živoroděnku svítivou - Poeciliopsis prolifica. Tento drobný druh živorodky, který pochází Mexika, dorůstá pouhých 3 cm a je dalším klidnou rybičkou pro malá akvária.
Živoroděnka svítivá patří mezi nejmenší živorodky, samičky dorůstají 15-40 mm, samečkové jsou podstatně menší, jen 10-18 mm. V přírodě se vyskytují v Mexiku, na pacifickém pobřeží od řeky Rio Yaqui ve státě Sonora až po San Blas ve státě Nayari. Obývá sladké i brakické vody. Pro přípravu brakické vody v akváriu se doporučuje přídavek mořské soli (2 lžičky do 10 litrů vody). Přisolování vody v akváriu není ale bezpodmínečně nutné. Teplota vody by se měla udržovat v rozpětí 24 - 28 °C.
Pro chov je nejvhodnější jednodruhová nádrž nebo společnost drobných klidných druhů. Nejlépe se jim daří v hustě zarostlé nádrži s dostatkem úkrytů mezi rostlinami. Doporučuje se použití plovoucích rostlin (Ceratophyllum demersum, Limnobium laevigatum, Pistia stratiotes).
Živoroděnky krmime drobnou potravou, živou (Cyclop, nauplie žábronošky solné), i mraženou. Přijímají i kvalitní umělá krmiva.
